Farewell to a good friend

Our new vehicle

The car we have borrowed from friends for the past year is soon to be returned to them upon their arrival back in the UK. So in anticipation we have been hunting for something to support our family over the next year at least while we remain in Scotland. This weekend we bought a new car ... well new for us ... it is a 1999 Honda CRV and we are as excited about it as much as we have been in the past to buy a brand new car off the dealer's lot.

Forever young at heart

Peter Pan is the story of staying young forever and not growing up ... written J.M. Barrie. He was born not too far from Dundee in Kirriemuir and the house he grew up in is part of the National Trust for Scotland. We took a drive there in our "new" (1999) Honda CRV on Sunday May 16th. We all enjoyed it and the boys got a chance to dress up like pirates and play with some cool Peter Pan props.

Pictish stones from 1300 years ago

Well on Sunday May 16th we took a road trip not only to Kirriemuir to see the birthplace of J.M. Barrie - the author of Peter Pan - (see above) but also to nearby Aberlemno where we saw fantastic (Class 1) stones from the Pictish culture about 7th or 8th century. We saw a great celtic cross and other symbology including a triple disk, a "Z-Rod", comb and mirror, cup and ring, and others. Some other interesting symbols were on gravestones from the mid 1700's (hour-glass, bell, skull, coffin, and cross-bones). Another great example of archaeology and a window to the past.
